Organic Waste Reduction & Composting Solutions

On-Site, Sustainable Consulting, Equipment, & End-to-End Solutions

We believe every client has the ability to fulfill their sustainability goals AND reap the economic benefits of reducing their waste WHERE it is generated.

An early adopter to the Zero Waste movement, Founder and CEO, Derek Tabak established Eccotec driven by the belief that composting is an affordable, cost-effective, and simple way for organizations to reduce operating costs while eliminating the need to landfill bio-waste that contributes so significantly to global warming.

Today, the company offers a full range of consulting services and equipment that create highly customized on-site solutions to fit every client’s organic waste management needs. With organic waste typically making up 70% of what is typically sent to the landfill, Eccotec has saved clients 50% and many times, much more in their waste hauling and related charges. Composting and Eccotec programs have additionally reduced water usage, a valued and increasingly costly resource in many areas in the US and internationally.

Some of Our Clients…

“Waste is not waste unless it is wasted.”

                                                                      Dan Knapp, Urban Ore

About 7-10% of all greenhouse gasses produced in Europe and North America come from landfill methane and CO2 emissions. At least 40% of the waste put into landfills is compostable organics and all of the landfill greenhouse gas emissions are from compostable organic waste.

ECCOTEC has the vision and commitment to address the risks and opportunities presented by climate changeWe facilitate end-to-end sustainable waste diversion programs of bio-organic waste, including composting. We provide expert consulting, from an initial needs assessment to recommendations of appropriate products and approaches to implementing and sustaining waste processing. By dealing sustainably with waste, we reduce landfill methane emissions, improve soil health, conserve water, and reduce our reliance on toxic fertilizers.

Successful implementation means more than creating environmentally sound solutions. ECCOTEC provides creative, flexible, and unique ways to ensure your project has a positive return on investment. All of our solutions are designed to keep your waste management project cash flow positive as early as possible.

To accomplish this, ECCOTEC looks at all aspects of your situation - from waste generation to the use and value of the newly converted outputted premium compost. We consider your current direct and indirect expenses, other cash flow, and business planning issues and create sound, customized solutions enabling you to reduce expenses and replace bio-waste with an environmentally sound valuable resource.

Thank you.  We look forward to assisting you with your organic waste reduction needs!

Meet the Team

… with a combined experience of over half a century in sustainable organic waste management and composting solutions.

  • Founder

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more.

Founder.

Having worked as an executive in private industry for several decades, Derek saw an opportunity to reduce greenhouse gases through organic waste remediation while simultaneously producing better operating costs. As most industries were highly dependent on expensive waste haulers, he saw no reason that many organizations couldn’t either significantly reduce their bio-waste through new technologies and/or convert that waste to compost, a valuable resource that not only replaces the need for toxic fertilizers but also creates water usage efficiencies.

Over the years, Derek has had the honor of helping a wide array of organizations from university campuses to international laboratories to hotels and resorts.

... and a team of colleagues with deep expertise in federal, state, and local compliance, tax, carbon credits and more.

Welcome to Our Services

Waste, Process & Costs Audits

Our initial consultation focuses on your objectives and how this initiative fits into your overall sustainability program.  We conduct a comprehensive audit of your current waste (type, volume & weight), and review your waste disposal practices and hauling charges.

Suppose composting and green waste will be part of the program. In that case, we also review your landscaping practices (i.e., use of soil amendments, and water usage) and conduct a site and facilities capacity audit to determine your space configuration and existing infrastructures available to support a composting operation.

.

Turn-Key Solutions & ROI Projections

Our solutions are based on your unique situation. Based on hard data and observations revealed in the audits, and stakeholder input, we make our recommendations. We can also provide you with an ROI analysis that will show you when you can expect a return on your investment.

This analysis illustrates your current hauling charges, water usage, and soil amendments costs against your projected savings and factors in the cost of your equipment investments.

Equipment Sourcing & Installation

Having worked on initiatives ranging from global lab operations in Sao Paulo to a large university campus in Los Angeles, we have the experience and global industry knowledge necessary to source the specific equipment and processes that meet your sustainability goals and cost projections.

We work with you to develop detailed specifications necessary for a successful implementation, including installation site, access to energy resources and feedstock.

Education & Training

We train and educate key stakeholders and responsible staff regarding equipment operating procedures, practices, and proper maintenance to ensure your system’s benefits are fully realized.

Follow-Up

We view ourselves as partners in your sustainability journey, and as your partner, don’t abandon you after the installation of your systems. We are fully committed to your success and follow up to ensure your system is working as planned and assist with any adjustments, additional trainings or interactions with the manufacturer necessary to get you back on track.

EQUIPMENT SOURCING

The industry’s most flexible, productive, and cost-effective equipment is sourced to fulfill our client’s unique on-site needs that meet their sustainability objectives, budget and space requirements.

Dehydrators

Dehydrators process waste for medium to large food service facilities and institutions.

Compostable waste is dehydrated using an energy-efficient and automated process. Dehydrators are easy to install and maintain and require no freshwater connection. Paddles macerate the waste, heated by the unit’s storage chamber to kill bacteria, reducing the waste volume by up to 93%.

The resulting product is a dry, earthy material that may be used as an accelerant in composting. Combine with Pulper for a complete waste management system.

Pulpers

Pulping Systems offer maximum flexibility. Able to be connected to food prep and scrapping areas, the food service waste is mixed with water to create a pulpable slurry comprised of approximately 95% liquid and 5% solids.

The extractor removes the solids (pulp) and recirculates the water back into the grinding tanks. Pulpers reduce waste volume by an 8 to 1 ratio (87.5%) and can process 1250 pounds an hour. Available with The Grabber system to remove flatware and other ferrous metals from the pulping process.

In-Vessel Composters

In-vessel composters can take in 150 to 10,000 pounds of organic waste per day, depending on the specific type and size. The variety of in-vessel composters makes them a good choice for most end-to-end organic waste systems as they fit into almost any site.

The in-vessel composter is loaded daily with food and green waste or other carbon sources that remain in the machine for six to ten weeks. The aeration and turning are done automatically ensuring the natural decomposition process works perfectly from start to finish. The finished compost is fed into a bag or bin ready to be mixed with soil or transferred to a maturation bay.

The ventilation system makes it possible to eliminate bad odors. In many cases, the air from the machine is led into the sewage. When this is not possible the Biofilter is an excellent option for the treatment of odors generated by the composting process.
